Buy Aquarium Fish - The First Thing I Should Look For When Buying Aquarium Fish

If you have decided to buy aquarium fish, the first thing that comes to your mind is about what to buy. Should I buy the saltwater species or the freshwater species? Of course, you have other things to consider like the money for the fish, shipping costs, utilities, etc.

The Money Factor

Fish Tank

If you love aquariums, if your heart has begun to flutter for the water pet, nothing might prevent you from going for it. Of course, you might not have thousands of dollars, but the good news is love pays! You can manage to buy the fish that you like for whatever you can afford to spend. Of course, the low budget thing should be realistic to afford the purchase.

Once you have decided on how much you have to spend, you need to decide between saltwater and freshwater fish.

Saltwater And Freshwater Fish

If you are fresh and new to aquariums and fish, say no to saltwater fish. Get your feet wet breeding those freshwater species, which are easier to maintain. Do not get misled by the term "saltwater" thinking it is all salt and therefore easier maintenance, almost 90% of beginners think this way, but it is the reverse. Saltwater is hard for beginners.

If you are a seasoned freshwater breeder, you are probably planning to add more species to your freshwater tank or you are trying to look for options with saltwater species. Experienced people - go by passion. Newbie - Be freshwater compliant.

The first thing I should look for:

Colors trigger peace and love. Love for aquariums is psychologically "love for the magic of organized colors". You probably want your fish to look colorful. Gold, silver, yellow, black, white, stripes, dots, iridescence, etc, you cannot have it all for the money you have. So, narrow down to a few color choices and check for related species.

I have decided about the color, Now What?

After you have decided on a color, and of course fresh or saltwater, look for your desired choice of color or pattern. Refine your search and short-list those that suit your budget.

Once you have a list of species that suit your budget...

Aquariums are all about maintenance. Check in to the food, behavior, and maintenance routine of the species you have in hand. Narrow down the list in terms of that species, which is most favorable for your maintenance style.

Again, You Are Left With A Few More

You want your pet to live as long as possible. Arrange the choice of species in the order of life span from the ascending to descending. Obviously the one at the top of the list should be your preference to purchase, by practical order. If your intuition dictates something else, is it the love for a pet then favor your intuition.

If your heart does not settle for just one type, you want to consider mixing them. Be sure that you are buying species that get along together. Tick your options and go ahead to buy aquarium fish.
